My dad turns the big 6-0 tomorrow and to celebrate his day, Mark, Trent and I, headed down to the Bay Area last Friday for some much needed family time. I cannot tell you how excited I was to see my family after the week I had, especially in light of the fact that after my rant about the falling out I had with a family member, I took the post down only to be taunted by that family member and informed that not only did she write the horribly mean email that prompted my post, but that my brother-in-law, (who I had--had being the operative word always loved and had the upmost respect for), helped her write it! With that little revelation, I was excited to spend time with some people who actually understand the meaning of the term "family."
After receiving some slack for the post I made about that falling out, and finding out that the email that prompted that blog was a collaboration, I am seriously considering (I'm about 99% sure) posting the email that they sent me which prompted the anger I had in the post I took down and now wish i hadn't. That way, those of you who judged me can see what caused my anger and maybe even realize that maybe, just maybe, I may have been right to say the things that I did. I was too busy having fun this weekend to post it, but we'll see...
On a much happier note, I was honored to have been allowed to go with my soon-to-be sister-in-law and her mom and sister wedding dress shopping (and my mom and aunt, as well). We had a blast and I am so excited for her because she found her dream dress and all 90 pounds of her looked beautiful! I cannot wait for their big day!
After the dress appointment, Mark, Trent and my parents went to our 3d/4d ultrasound. The baby refused to move his little legs and hands so we had a hard time seeing him at first. After jumping and shaking my belly, he finally cooperated and we were able to see the little guy. He had the same chubby cheeks and pug nose that Trent had in his 3d ultrasound! He kept sucking on his toes and umbilical cord and his eyes were open nearly the entire time. It was very neat to see and we can't wait to meet the new little man in May.
Last night, my brothers and I (and all of our spouses) got a limo and took my parents to Flemming's in Walnut Creek (Trent stayed home with Aunt Sassy, who is the world's best babysitter). Despite the fact that the people at our table refused to leave for over an hour past our reservation time, we had a great time once we were finally seated. Man, oh, man....was the food delicious! We all agreed that we have never had food so delicious....from the apps, to the steaks and dessert, everything was absolutely delectable!
My dad, as usual, gave the most touching toast that made us all cry! In return, we basically roasted the poor guy and we've never laughed so hard! My older brother revealed some hilarious stories of things that he got away with when he was a teenager that no one knew about until last night; my little brother gave a touching toast about my dad and I told some funny memories of growing up. Mark, who was quite toasted himself, gave a very touching and emotional toast about my dad who he has grown so close with since his father's own passing. All in all, it was just what my family needed! To sit there with the immediate family like old times, laugh and reminisce was a blast and something that I think we all cherished.
It's weird to think that the next time we will probably all be together like that, we will have a new baby as will my older brother and his wife, Tami. We are so looking forward to Trent have a brother and a new cousin (well, technically, two new cousins because Mark's sister is pregnant too..yay!). I was sad to leave my family but I'm sure my parents will be here soon to help me put the new pirate room together! Thank goodness because that is going to be a lot of work!
I love my family and I am sooooo lucky to have the parents and siblings I do. You cannot find a family who is closer and who loves each other more.
