Honey Boo Boo is Back!!

I am embarrassed to admit that Mark and I love Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and alas, it has returned. Well, I should clarify, Mark loves it and I get a good laugh out of that family. Anyhow, Mark has been talking about the new season for the last few weeks now and much to his delight, it was on last night. While we were watching the episode, Mark found himself pausing the television and rewinding some parts so that he could make sure he saw/heard something correctly. As he was doing this, I couldn't help but think that blogs would be burning up with comments about the show would be which was when he told me that I should do weekly recaps of my own. Here's the first one!

For those of you who do watch the show, but haven't seen last nights episode, you shouldn't read this yet!

The show started out with Mama calling herself "beautimous." Although I can't exactly agree with her, I do love her confidence! Shortly after that, Mark had to pause the television so that he could gauge exactly how close the family home is to the train tracks and he estimates it to be approximately five feet!  That is stinking close! There was one part of the show, where the family was arguing very, very loudly. You couldn't tell who was screaming or what anyone was saying but as a train approached, the family, in unison, screamed "train." Thank goodness no one has lost a limb (or their life) due to the proximity of that train!

The part of the show that, according to Mark, deserved a merit rewind is also the part that I found the most disgusting and that was when one of the kids, who they call Pumpkin, picked her nose, looked at her finger and then ate her booger. Give me a second to wash my mouth and brush my teeth because I think I just threw up a little bit typing that sentence.

Okay, I'm baclk. Next, the family prepared for Halloween and to do this they went to a pumpkin patch to find pumpkins to carve. Mama and Sugar Bear found a lopsided (according to them, it is pronounced "wopsided") pumpkin that they took home with them. The family had a great time carving pumpkins (they even put the seeds on the new infant's face) and Sugar Bear's brother "Uncle Poodle" put a pumpkin on his head and it got stuck. In order to get the pumpkin off, Uncle Poodle had to smash his pumpkin covered head against the ground so that the pumpkin would break. As the family was running through costume ideas, Sugar Bear suggested that the new baby, Kaitlyn, be a hitchhiker (due to her three thumbs), while Kaitlyn's mother suggested that she be a crab due to that same thumb! Oddly, they finally settled on the baby being a hot dog.

We also discovered that not only does Mama have a fear of mayonnaise but Honey Boo Boo doesn't know how to use dental floss which was an item that she was given while trick or treating. Mama, being the good mother that she is, makes sure to go through the bags of Halloween candy in order to make sure that everything is safe and by "going through," I mean that she really just eats the candy.

Perhaps the most valuable lesson that Mama taught her children this episode is that healthy food is not important. When Honey Boo Boo pulled out an apple from her candy bag, Mama told her to throw it outside to feed the deer while the family sat around eating all of the candy. That advice deserves a merit badge!

In all seriousness, I read an interview with Mama yesterday in which she said that she would not fall into the trap that other reality t.v. stars fall into by spending all of their money, so rather than take the paychecks from TLC directly, she has the show divvy up the money the family earns per episode (estimated to be $15-$20k) and be placed into 5 separate trust accounts for her kids and granddaughter which the children cannot touch until they are 21. I must say, that that is pretty smart. Most people I know would blow that money so fast and I have to give it to her for looking out for her children's futures!

Yes, the family is kind of gross and they lack most social manners but you can tell that they do love each other and that they have a ton of fun which I have to admire!
